ในวันนี้ที่การประชุมที่มีผู้เข้าร่วมมากกว่า 2,000 คน เบนท์ลี่ ซิสเต็มส์ ได้ประกาศผู้ชนะรางวัล BE Awards of Excellence ประจำปี 2549 ซึ่งมอบให้เป็นเกียรติแก่ผลงานอันยอดเยี่ยมของผู้ใช้เบนท์ลี่ ซึ่งได้ปรับปรุงสาธารณูปโภคของโลกให้ดีขึ้น ทั้งนี้ มีโครงการ 29 โครงการในโปรแกรมสาขาอาชีพที่ได้รับรางวัล BE Award ในระหว่างการประชุม BE Conference ที่เมืองชาร์ลอตต์ ซึ่งโครงการเหล่านี้ได้สร้างเกณฑ์มาตรฐานให้กับอุตสาหกรรมของพวกเขา และแสดงถึงจินตนาการและอำนาจทางเทคนิคขององค์กรที่ได้สร้างโครงการเหล่านั้นขึ้นมา นอกจากนี้ เป็นครั้งแรกที่มีการมอบรางวัล BE Award ในสาขา Lifetime Achievement ในส่วนของโปรแกรมสาขาวิชาการนั้น ปรากฏว่ารางวัล BE Award ตกเป็นของ Educator of the Year และการออกแบบยอดเยี่ยมที่สุด 3 อันดับแรกของนักศึกษา
การประกาศรายชื่อผู้ได้รับรางวัลมีขึ้นในระหว่างงานเลี้ยงอาหารค่ำและพิธีที่มีนายปีเตอร์ ซากัล จากรายการ “Wait Wait… Do’t Tell Me!” ของสถานีวิทยุแห่งชาติ (National Public Radio) เป็นผู้ดำเนินรายการ และร่วมสนับสนุนโดยบริษัทแมคกรอว์-ฮิลล์ คอนสตรัคชั่น ซึ่งเป็นผู้พิมพ์วารสาร Engineering News-Record โดยคณะกรรมการอิสระที่พิจารณาตัดสินรางวัล BE Award ซึ่งประกอบด้วยผู้ใช้ผลิตภัณฑ์ของเบนท์ลีย์จนประสบความสำเร็จ และผู้เชี่ยวชาญที่มีชื่อเสียงในแวดวงอุตสาหกรรม ได้ทำการคัดเลือกโครงการจากโครงการที่ได้รับการเสนอชื่อกว่า 260 โครงการ
