Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra looking for candidates

Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO), the Thailand’s first professional orchestra, is managed and coordinated by Mahidol University’s College of Music with Associate Professor Dr. Sugree Charoengsook as director and Professor Shuichi Komiyama as the orchestra’s conductor. Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra is holding auditions for various positions including Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Double brass, Trumpet, Oboe, English horn, and bass clarinet. Applications are being accepted from today until Thursday August 4, 2005 with auditions to be arranged on Thursday August 11, 2005 from 3 – 9 pm at Mahidol University’s College of Music.

The orchestra has a total of 82 members including professors, college students and pre-music students of Mahidol University’s College of Music as well as outsiders.

Director of Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra Associate Professor Dr. Sugree Chareonsook, said: “The goal of establishing this orchestra is so that Thailand has a professional orchestra and to use it to develop and promote music and to greet foreign visitors. We also hope to perform in other countries and invite international musicians and soloists to play with us in order to lift Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra to the international level.”

“Mahidol University’s College of Music is greatly honored to have Deputy Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul as the committee chairman and Mr.Bhanapot Damapong as honorary president. They both deeply love music and are determined to build up this orchestra so that Thai people have the opportunity to listen to quality music and do not have to fly abroad to listen to other orchestras. We also spend a large amount of money each year to bring in foreign performers,” Associate Professor Dr. Sugree added.
